I would like to invite researchers to submit an abstract (maximum 300 words) for an oral or poster presentation at the Sixth European Congress of Methodology. As the session organizer, I will selected about four of them to be presented in the 90-minute session Bringing Together the Qualitative and Quantitative Component in Mixed Research. In the abstract form you can specify preference for an oral or a poster presentation, but the organizing committee makes the final decision. The deadline for submitting abstracts is the 1st of February 2014. To submit your abstract and for more information:

    Description of session topic
In 2007, Alan Bryman observed that in mixed research, the qualitative and quantitative component are often hardly integrated. The question arises which insights into this process we have gained since then. In this session, every contribution is welcomed that focuses on integrating the quantitative and qualitative component in mixed research. In addition, researchers are invited to present and discuss specific questions they have related to an integration problem that they encountered in their research practice. Issues of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
    - In what ways do the outcomes of the qualitative component qualify or modify the outcomes of the quantitative component and vice versa?
    - Is Morse (2009) right that one of the components is always the core, and the other is the supplement? What consequences does this have for the process of integration, and the conclusions that can be drawn from integration?
    - Which units of analysis and units of observation (Babbie 2013) are involved in the qualitative and quantitative component, and what happens to them in the integration process?
    - To what extent does integration differ between concurrent and sequential designs?
    - How are the two components integrated in a multilevel mixed design in which, for example, qualitative data have been collected at the higher level and quantitative data at the lower level?
    - Which moments of integration (points of interface; Morse 2009) can be distinguished in the research process? How is the process of integration affected by the moment of integration?
