Division D Preconference Workshop 3: Writing the Methods Chapter of the Dissertation Proposal
Fri, April 13, 10:05am to 12:00pm, Westin New York at Times Square, Ninth Floor, Pearl Room
Abstract
The methods chapter of a dissertation proposal is in many ways the scientific heart of the dissertation; however writing a methods chapter can be a challenging task. You are expected not only to describe the study design, sampling, data collection, and analysis, but also to provide a thoughtful justification for your choice of research strategy and methods to best address the research problem of interest. This workshop is designed to address this challenge and to provide guidance on how to write an effective methods chapter. Presenters with extensive experience in advising on dissertations studies in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research will provide helpful tips for how to structure the chapter content in a cohesive and logical manner and how to explain and support the choice of the methods. Participants will be able to develop a detailed outline of the methods chapter for the dissertation study.
