THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Section 1. APPOINTMENT. The Executive Director shall be appointed by majority vote of eligible members of the MMIRA Board of Directors for a three-year renewable term. The incumbent may be reappointed following the completion of a satisfactory periodic merit review. If the Executive Director resigns before the end of his or her term, the Executive Director is expected to provide a minimum of a 30-day notice and to assist with the transition.

Section 2. DUTIES. The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the Association responsible for the business and operations of the organization, including the webpage. The Executive Director will formulate plans and advise on policies for the accomplishment of the Association’s objectives, and, in consultation with the Board, will be responsible for their administration. The Executive Director serves as an ex officio member of MMIRA Board of Directors, without a vote and will receive merit feedback from the Board on an annual basis.

Duties include the following:

Financial. The Executive Director shall prepare an annual budget for approval by the Board and provide regular up-dates to the Board of the financial status of the organization; shall have charge of managing the Association’s bank accounts, discharge its obligations including to pay taxes and insurance, work with a Certified Public Accountant to prepare taxes and maintain its accounts; and shall be responsible for the management and implementation of the Association’s investment policies.

Operational. The Executive Director will assist the President with the organization of MMIRA Board Meetings, including at regional and global conferences; provide support to committee chairs and Board members, including to assist with activities that involve a vote of the membership (e.g. by-law changes, voting); and maintain all of the Organization’s archival and digital records.

Communications and Marketing. The Executive Director will assist, with cooperation of Chairperson of the Marketing and Communications Committee, with communications for public relations, advocacy, education, conferences and networking activities and oversee the construction and regular up-dating of the MMIRA website and provide information to the president for the weekly update that is distributed to the membership. He/she will serve as a representative for the Organization.

Recruiting and Membership. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the collection of membership fees from members of MMIRA and affiliates, including maintaining accurate membership records and processing timely follow-up for renewals. He or she will assist with recruiting activities, including by linking information about MMIRA to other sites.

Liaison to Affiliates, Chapters, and External Constituents. Serve as a liaison to chapters and affiliates in order to share information with the Board about their on-going interests and activities. Assist with the recruitment of new affiliates and chapters.

Section 3. VACANCY. If a vacancy occurs in the office of the Executive Director, the Board will designate an individual to fulfill the duties on a temporary basis, and initiate a search for a new Executive Director.
